TST_6392 Jordan Oultram on his way to a man of the match performance in the final against Lanercost.

Carlisle 2nds beat Lanercost by 13-runs to land the 2018 Eden Valley Cricket League Senior Cup.

An at times nail-biting final was the perfect finale to a fantastic finals day held at Lanercost when Carlisle held on to secure the season's first piece of silverware.

Carlisle had ensured their place at the event and a semi final date with Wetheral after a bowl off victory over Threlkeld earlier in the week.

If that had been a tense affair, the game with Wetheral was anything but, as classy contributions from Mitchell, Oultram and Whinn ensured a comfortable, 9-wicket win after Wetheral had struggled to 89-9 from their 20-overs.

It meant a late afternoon clash with the home side to decide who would become EVCL Cup winners.

After wining the toss, skipper Bradley opted to bat and watched as Jordan Whinn once again gave a commanding performance to give Carlisle control.

But, a flurry of wickets interrupted progress before a late, hard-hitting cameo from the skipper himself helped Carlisle set a victory target of 143 for Lanercost.

Their hopes rested largely with a powerful top order, and Ross Wilson and Craig Foster began with purpose and aggression.

They'd added almost 40 from 5 overs before Jordan Oultram stepped up to first have Wilson stumped and then to remove Foster and Jonathan Robley in successive balls in his second over.

Lanercost, egged on by a boisterous home crowd, rebuilt, with Lawrence Baldwin's excellent innings keeping the game alive until to the final overs.

But with boundary options harder to find as Carlisle patrolled the ropes the hosts just fell short with Carlisle winning by 13 runs.

A fantastic performance from the second 11 and many congratulations to Olly and all the team.
